This decision has been taken by the<strong> General Directorate of Traffic (DGT)<\/strong> due to the <strong>number of accidents caused by the use of the warning triangle<\/strong>, a tool that should prevent further incidents \u2014 not create them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-33\">It is not mandatory to carry warning triangles in the car, but it is<strong> not prohibited either<\/strong>. The new regulation aims to switch to the <strong>V\u201116 emergency light.<\/strong> The idea is for the replacement to be complete by January 1, 2026. Keep reading so you don\u2019t miss anything!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"ai-optimize-34\">What does the new regulation involve?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-34\">The publication of Royal Decree 159\/2021 in the Official State Gazette (BOE) states that both the <strong>warning triangle and the V\u201116 light can currently be used.<\/strong> However, since July 1, 2023, the use of the triangle is no longer compulsory. This measure was announced by the DGT, with a full transition period extending until January 1, 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-35\">During this transition period, <strong>only on conventional roads<\/strong> (single\u2011carriageway roads) is it still <strong>mandatory to carry triangles in the car<\/strong>. <strong>Not carrying triangles<\/strong> on these types of roads may result in <strong>fines<\/strong> of up to \u20ac200. On motorways and dual carriageways, use of the triangle is no longer necessary, so there is no fine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-36\"><strong>Spain<\/strong> is one of the<strong> first countries to apply this new road safety regulation<\/strong>, meaning that in most neighbouring countries, the triangular warning sign remains compulsory. Travelling abroad without carrying one may result in fines, with amounts varying depending on the country.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"ai-optimize-37\">How to use the V\u201116 emergency light?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-37\">In place of the classic reflective triangle sign, the <strong>DGT promotes the V\u201116 light.<\/strong> The V\u201116 emergency light is a small orang<strong>e<\/strong> or yellow device that <strong>illuminates 360\u00ba,<\/strong> making it a <a href=\"..\/..\/..\/es\/blog\/kit-seguridad-coche\"><strong>key element in a car safety kit for safe travel<\/strong>.<\/a> It can emit light both intermittently and continuously in all directions for<strong> about thirty minutes.<\/strong> It can run on a battery or cell, with a <strong>minimum lifespan of 18 months.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-38\">You can purchase the V\u201116 emergency light <strong>in any workshop<\/strong>, petrol station, or specialised car accessory store, at a cost ranging from \u20ac20 to \u20ac50. <strong>It\u2019s easy to use<\/strong> \u2014 the base has a suction cup allowing it to stick to any surface of the car. Ideally, <strong>it should be placed on the top of the driver\u2019s side<\/strong>, so there\u2019s no need to leave the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-39\">A key innovation in this regulation is that it<strong> can be connected to the DGT 3.0 platform<\/strong>. This means that<strong> other drivers can see the vehicle\u2019s location in real time<\/strong> through road message panels, warning them to proceed with caution.
