At Ralarsa, we believe our work does not end when the vehicle leaves the windshield repair workshop — it goes further. To ensure you can enjoy the results after glass repair for as long as possible, and at the same time your driving experience, we bring you today’s article.
Below you will find a list of useful tips you can apply to correctly take care of your car after windshield replacement. Remember, for any questions, you can contact us or visit any of our centres. We look forward to seeing you!
First hours: the key
If it has not been possible to repair a windshield chip, the solution will be to fully replace the broken glass. During the windshield replacement process, a special adhesive is used, which reaches maximum grip and strength after 48 hours. For this reason, the first hours are crucial for your new glass to adhere perfectly to the vehicle’s structure.
To achieve this, during these first 48 hours we advise you, as far as possible, not to drive on roads with many potholes or in poor condition to avoid vibration of the windshield. Similarly, try not to slam your vehicle’s doors, as this can create internal air currents that push against the glass.
Windshield replacement and first car wash
As mentioned in the previous point, it is advisable to avoid strong movements or vibrations on a newly replaced windshield, even if it is fully set when leaving the workshop. Still, washing the car in an automatic tunnel straight after glass repair can cause damage. The rollers and sponges along the wash tunnel can put too much pressure on the windshield.
On the other hand, since the materials used in windshield repair are resistant to moisture so as not to interfere in the drying process, you can easily wash your vehicle with water, as long as it is not high-pressure.
Return to the workshop whenever needed
As soon as your windshield receives a small impact, visit your trusted workshop so we can repair the chip and avoid having to replace it again.
Ignoring a chip is the most common reason for needing a full glass replacement. Overlooking it can cause the small chip to grow into a crack across the glass when you least expect it, but you can avoid this by repairing the glass before the chip is larger than a two-euro coin.
