- Bull’s eye. Caused by the impact of a small stone or similar object, it is the most common type of damage. It looks like a small crater with a diameter between 1 and 2.5 cm.
- Bull’s eye with microcracks. Very similar to the above, but with cracks around the crater caused by a stronger impact. If its shape resembles a star, the risk of it spreading across the glass is much greater.
- Cracked windshield. Repairing vehicle glass in this condition is usually impossible, as the damage occurs across the entire surface, leaving it completely compromised with cracks that expand over time.
- Surface wear. Repairing a windshield with superficial wear is no problem, as this is simply a small mark on the glass.
Enemies of a broken windshield
On the road, there are different situations that can worsen the condition of a vehicle’s windshield — and not only when it is already damaged.
First, weather changes and temperature shifts are a natural enemy of windshields. The main reason is that the car’s glass contracts in cold and expands in heat. Therefore, when moving the car from one temperature zone to another, any existing damage may enlarge due to the state change in the material. To minimise this effect as much as possible, we recommend parking your car in a covered area until you can visit your trusted workshop to repair the damaged windshield.
Secondly, trying to repair the windshield at home with DIY tricks such as clear nail polish or super glue — although it may seem like a good idea — is not. These fixes are popular but only temporary, and they are by no means a complete or correct repair. In addition, since they are not products designed for an automotive windshield, they can impair clear vision while driving.
